This holiday season was certainly full of tidings and good cheer for the Foundation!

Our Holiday Tour of Historic Homes broke our record for the most tickets sold – over 170! We are grateful to the hospitality businesses and homeowners who participated by opening their homes to all the tour participants. We are likewise also thankful for the local bakeries and restaurants that donated the refreshments enjoyed at each tour stop. The money raised will benefit First Zion Baptist Church restoration.

Our First Zion parade float looked fantastic in its inaugural parade! This float is the culmination of countless hours of planning and hard work from community volunteers and generous donations from local businesses. A special thank you to foundation board member Catherine Payne for having the vision and leading the execution of the float.

Finally, we just learned that we are the recipient of a $2,000 grant from Two Rivers Giving Circle to assist with the rehabilitation of slate gables on the front and rear of First Zion. The Two Rivers Giving Circle provides grants to Jefferson, Berkeley and Morgan County organizations engaged in historic preservation and natural resources conservation, and it is one of the few local grant-makers that focuses on these fields.

Overall in 2023, the Foundation benefitted greatly from our generous community’s donations of time, talent and treasure, and we look forward to seeing what 2024 has in store for us.
