Pine Grove Cemetery

Pine Grove Cemetery is an almost unknown six-acre burial ground dating to 1850, when citizens of Harpers Ferry petitioned the War Department for the land. Through the years it may have served as a potters’ field and as a final resting place for victims of a cholera epidemic. Union soldiers from the Civil War are known to have been buried there, some likely later moved. Although burial records were destroyed by fire years ago, ground penetrating radar has identified at least 30 graves. The Foundation aims to clear brush, locate and identify graves, while protecting this unique piece of town heritage.
